Review Your Insurance Before A Hurricane

insurance home

Insurance for Homeowners

For homeowners, be sure you have adequate building coverage to restore or rebuild your home, as well as enough contents coverage to replace your valuables. Check your Additional Living Expenses (ALE) coverage to see how much your policy covers if the worst happens and you need to relocate due to damage to your property caused by a covered loss.

While most homeowners' insurance policies cover wind damage, the majority of the damage from a hurricane is caused by water, which normally necessitates the purchase of a separate flood insurance policy. Flooding caused by a hurricane is unlikely to be covered by your homeowner's insurance. Insurance for Renters

If you have renters' insurance, you should review it to see if you have enough coverage to replace all of your belongings and if your policy includes additional living expense coverage.

Flood Protection Insurance

Flood insurance policies are typically acquired separately from standard homeowner's insurance policies. If you live in a hurricane-prone area, even if you live inland, you should think about flood insurance.

Flood insurance is available to homeowners in low to medium-risk flood zones as determined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Residents of high-risk locations, on the other hand, must purchase flood insurance if their properties are still mortgaged and backed by the federal government.

Hurricanes can do massive damage. Having the right insurance coverage for your needs is one method to help manage your risk during hurricane season. Examine your coverage before hurricane season to ensure that you are prepared for any storm that comes your way.
