A Brief History of our Agency:

J.S. Edwards & Sherlock Insurance Agency enjoys a rich heritage that dates back to the late 19th Century. A combination of three family-owned agencies built on the values of their founders, J.S. Edwards & Sherlock Insurance Agency is one of Texas' leading independent insurance agencies.

James S. Edwards began his business career in the 1880s as a partner in the firm of Edwards & Junker Real Estate. In 1910, he established J.S. Edwards & Company, selling real estate and insurance. His son, Lum Edwards, Sr., soon went to work for the agency and took over the firm in 1947. Lum C. Edwards, Jr. and Martin Edwards continued the family tradition and joined their father in business. Under Lum Edwards, Jr. and Martin Edwards, the company continued to grow and prosper, becoming a leader in the insurance industry in Southeast Texas.

In 1988, well-known and respected insurance professional Robert J. Robertson and his agency, I.D. Robertson and Company, joined forces with J.S. Edwards & Company. Founded in 1929 by I.D. "Bobby" Robertson, a recognized member of the Beaumont business community, I.D. Robertson and Company was one of the area's most prominent insurance agencies. Joining his father in the firm, Robert Robertson led the agency to continued success with a focus on property and casualty insurance, risk management and consulting services.

Edward J. Sherlock, Jr. established Sherlock Insurance Agency in 1952. The firm enjoyed success providing a wide range of insurance services to the Southeast Texas region. Craig J. Sherlock joined his father in the firm in 1976 and was followed by his brother E. Jay Sherlock in 1984. Working together, they continued to serve the insurance needs of the Southeast Texas area.

In October 1995, J.S. Edwards & Company and Sherlock Insurance Agency joined together to form J.S. Edwards & Sherlock Insurance Agency, a company of expertise, tradition and professionalism.

Today, the agency consists of a large staff of insurance professionals headquartered in Beaumont, Texas. As one of the region's largest independent insurance agencies, J.S. Edwards & Sherlock Insurance Agency represents a wide array of the nation's largest and most financially sound insurance carriers.
